Renée on the Promenade des Anglais is one of my absolute favourite restaurants anywhere. It’s relaxed but chic, popular with locals, brilliant with kids, and it serves a truffle martini I’ve never seen anywhere else.

The Setting
Inside, Renée is cosy but chic, with rustic touches, a contemporary feel and soft, warm lighting. It works just as well for a lazy lunch as for a long dinner.
What to Order
Start with the truffle martini. It’s absolutely delicious, and I’ve never seen one anywhere else.

The menu is Mediterranean, built around fresh local produce. Start with the artichokes with truffle and parmesan. For mains, the entrecôte is the standout, or go all in on truffle with the pici pasta with pecorino and truffle.
Save room for the pavlova. It’s creamy, sweet and completely worth it.

Service
The service is fantastic: friendly, attentive and genuinely helpful. The staff know their wine and will happily find you the right bottle from a great list of regional French wines.
With Kids
Families are warmly welcomed, and the staff are brilliant at suggesting dishes for younger diners.

Lena’s Tips
- Book ahead in summer. It’s one of Nice’s best restaurants, and it fills up.
- Order the truffle martini. Then the artichokes.
- Ask about the specials. The seasonal dishes are worth hearing about.
- Bring the kids. They’ll be made very welcome.
The Verdict
Renée is everything I want from a Riviera restaurant: great food, a lovely room, brilliant service and a relaxed welcome for families. I’d go back every time I’m in Nice.
