Noosa Guide: Beaches, Restaurants and Where to Stay

Discover Noosa: Your ultimate guide to this coastal gem in Queensland. From stunning beaches to lush national parks, explore the best things

White sand and palm fronds at Noosa Main Beach

Noosa is the Sunshine Coast at its most polished: a north-facing beach with gentle waves, a national park full of koalas and a main street made for long lunches. Here’s everything you need to plan a trip.

Getting There

Noosa is about 90 minutes’ drive north of Brisbane. The closest airport is Sunshine Coast Airport, about 30 minutes away. From Brisbane Airport, you can hire a car or book a shuttle.

When to Go

Noosa’s subtropical climate means you can go year-round, but March to May is the sweet spot: mild weather, fewer crowds and perfect conditions for being outdoors.

Where to Stay

There are two main areas. Noosa Heads is the heart of the action, with Hastings Street’s shops and restaurants steps from Main Beach. Noosaville, on the Noosa River, is quieter and great for families.

  • Sofitel Noosa Pacific Resort: luxury and convenience, and my favourite.
  • Peppers Noosa Resort & Villas: eco-friendly luxury.
  • RACV Noosa Resort: great for families.

The Sofitel is a beautiful property with a gorgeous pool, and the sunsets from our balcony were something else.

Things to Do

Noosa National Park

Walk the Coastal Track through Noosa National Park for ocean views, secluded beaches and the chance to spot koalas in the wild.

Noosa Main Beach

Main Beach is one of Australia’s few north-facing beaches, with gentle waves and clear water. It’s perfect for swimming, paddleboarding and little ones.

Hastings Street

Hastings Street is lined with boutiques, galleries and restaurants. Grab a gelato or settle in for a long lunch outside.

Where to Eat

Lena’s Tips

  • Park further out. Parking near Hastings Street is tricky at busy times, so walk the last bit.
  • Wear sunscreen. Even on cloudy days, the Sunshine Coast lives up to its name.
  • Book ahead in high season. Restaurants and activities fill up.
  • Go to the Noosa Farmers Market. It’s on Sundays, with local produce and crafts.

The Verdict

Noosa is easy, beautiful and very good at long lunches. Stay at the Sofitel, swim at Main Beach, walk the Coastal Track and book Locale for dinner.
