Alassio is the Italian Riviera at its easiest: a long sandy beach, clear, shallow water and a pretty little town just behind it. We arrived by train from France with the pram, and it couldn’t have been simpler.

Where We Stayed
We stayed at the Grand Hotel Alassio, right on the beach.

The Town
Alassio is built around a long beachfront promenade that’s flat and very walkable, even with a pram. Behind it is a sweet little town centre with cobbled lanes, lovely local shops and even a Vilebrequin outlet.

Where to Eat
We had dinner at one of the small restaurants on the promenade, and I had one of the best pizzas of my life: a charcoal base topped with smoked salmon. It sounds unusual. It was brilliant.

Alassio with Kids
The beaches are sandy and safe, with clear, shallow water that’s perfect for little ones. Add a flat promenade and gelato on every corner, and it’s about as easy as a family seaside holiday gets.
Lena’s Tips
- Come by train. Alassio is an easy ride along the coast from France.
- Stay on the beach. You’ll want to step straight onto the sand.
- Bring the pram. The promenade is flat and smooth.
- Try the charcoal pizza. Trust me.
The Verdict
Alassio is a relaxed, easy and very pretty slice of the Italian Riviera, and one of the most family-friendly beach towns we’ve visited.
